Sharing Recognition Best Practices at the Griswold Home Care National Conference

Our Marketing Director, Matthew Coleman, accepted an invitation to speak at the Griswold Home Care National Conference in Philadelphia. It was a great chance to share and learn with a client who aims to provide a top-level employee experience.

The conference is an annual event for Griswold Home Care leaders. They come together to sharpen the saw, network, and learn best practices to roll out in their offices back home.

The presentation topic

Matthew shared “How to Master Caregiver Recognition in Full Employment Offices.” That was of special interest to several attendees. It’s a point of great importance in an industry where turnover is high and engagement can be low.

An employee experience where caregivers feel valued and appreciated is very important in the healthcare and service industry. Griswold Home Care knows their caregivers work very hard for them, and for the care recipient. As a result, they make extra effort to let everyone know how much that means to the company.

What we talked about

Some of the highlights included:

  • How caregiver recognition is intrinsically woven into the fabric of the Griswold Home Care principle surrounding dignity, both for the care recipient and the caregiver & staff (https://www.griswoldhomecare.com/the-griswold-home-care-story/)
  • The benefits of happy caregivers & staff as a result from solid recognition, both tangible (concrete & measurable) and intangible (the things we feel)
  • The foundations that make a caregiver recognition program successful: clearly defined criteria for selecting monthly award winners, affordable and simple ways to get started, and tips for making presentations powerful and memorable

It was a great time for learning best practices around caregiver recognition, and to hear success stories in the room from Griswold Home Care offices around the country who are having success with the MyEmployees recognition system.

Social media recognition is a popular topic

One thing that everyone could agree on is that social media is a big part of the recognition process. We covered a few examples of simple ways to make it happen on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Not only does it fill the award recipient with pride and accomplishment, many have found it to be a powerful recruiting tool when other caregivers in the community see Griswold Home Care making such a public show of recognition and appreciation.
